I have loaded the fbx into maya 2013, but you will need a lot of ram, 
lightwave handles it much better but i would still recomend at least 4 gigs

the vickers pod and cargo bay are lesser detailed models but serve well as scene extras for now,

most of the ship uses cycalist for control so you only need spin the controllers in the pitch to operate the mechanics.

base null for moving the ship (light blue)

press f9 and allow a render to start drawing, then cancel before activating VPR, i found image loading at first render to be very slow or freeze if you try to vpr without the initial preload of images, but after it flies along quite well.
